DVLA Basks in the Glory of Super Summer Sale – July 26, 2017
- Our summer sale held at Mercedes Benz World proved yet another resounding success with all but four of the 1,250 lots on offer falling under the auctioneers gavel.
The three-day event raised a little over £5 million total sum and, incredibly, attracted more than 10,000 registered bidders.
The auctions so-called headline registration “ MCL 720S“ deemed perfectly aligned to the latest McLaren supercar the 720S which was going through its official launch at the time of the July event, lived up to all expectations, selling for a mightily impressive hammer price of £20,200 after the YouTube celebrity “Vlogger MrJWW“ introduced the mark as part of his feature video he produced during the event.
The sales highest seller, however, yet again came from the phenomenally successful O-series with 45 O swiftly falling under the gavel for £51,000. In all, more than 35 registrations sold for more than £10,000, 16 sold for more than £15,000 and five changed hands for more than £20,000.
At the other end of the pay scale, about 15 sold for their £250 reserves, 12 sold for their £300 reserves and 10 sold for their £350 reserves.
The four unsold lots were 124 FE, 2014 KJ, 411 UJ and 122 YT.
Philip Evans claimed to have the bargain of the day when he arrived on the second morning from his home in Merthyr Tydfil home in South Wales and bought HOT 400T for a £1,300 hammer price. His delight was fuelled by the fact he was prepared to spend more than £5,000 to acquire lot 434 because it reflects his long-held nickname.
Shortly after the hammer came down, the carpenter proclaimed: I couldn’t be happier. I’ve wanted my perfect registration for a long time and now I have it. Obviously I was worried that the bidding would escalate but I needn’t have. Being in the auction room was a real buzz and I am so glad I made the effort.
